Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably. People with hyperhidrosis can sweat even when the temperature is cool, and when they are at rest. The uncontrollable sweating can lead to significant discomfort, both physical and emotional.
BOTOX® is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating that is not adequately managed with topical agents. BOTOX® treatment helps control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.

How do we know exactly where to inject?
We apply a tincture of iodine to the skin and then dust it lightly with corn starch powder (so-called Minor Starch Test). The perspiration combines the iodine and glucose in the starch and turns instantly black which makes identifying the hyperhidrotic areas very easy. It is mandatory to map out the sweating pattern this way as the physician can easily miss some of the active areas.
What Is Treatment With BOTOX® Like?
A small volume of BOTOX® solution is injected into the affected underarm area through a very fine needle. The needle is placed just under the skin, so you may experience some injection-related discomfort.

How Long Does a BOTOX® Treatment Last?
In a key clinical study, half of the patients had a treatment duration of at least 201 days or 6.7 months. BOTOX® is not a cure; your symptoms will return gradually, and you will know when the time is right for another treatment.
If you decide not to have further treatment, there will be no lasting change in the treated areas. The effects of BOTOX® treatment will gradually wear off, and your underarm sweating will resume. |
